General Community Rules

A friendly, all-purpose set that fits almost any community server.

📋 Server Rules

1. Be respectful to everyone. Treat all members with kindness. No harassment, hate speech, racism, or personal attacks.
2. Keep it SFW. No NSFW, gore, or explicit content anywhere in the server.
3. No spam or self-promotion. Don't flood chat, mass-ping, or advertise other servers without permission.
4. Use the right channels. Post content where it belongs and keep conversations on topic.
5. No drama or witch-hunting. Keep disagreements civil and take serious issues to a staff ticket.
6. Listen to the staff team. Moderators have the final say. Don't argue with decisions in public channels.
7. Follow Discord's [Terms of Service](https://discord.com/terms) and [Community Guidelines](https://discord.com/guidelines) at all times.
8. Be welcoming and have fun. Help new members feel at home.

How to Add Rules to Your Discord Server

Four steps from copy to a live, pinned rules channel

  1. 1

Pick a template or build your own

Choose one of the ready-made templates above, or use the builder to toggle the exact rules you want, add your server name, and pick a plain or aesthetic style.
  2. 2

    Copy the rules

Click the copy button to send the full rule set to your clipboard. Discord markdown like bold (**text**) and spoilers (||text||) renders automatically when posted.
  3. 3

    Create a #rules channel

Make a dedicated read-only text channel named #rules or #info. Set everyone's permission to "View Channel" but not "Send Messages" so the rules stay clean.
  4. 4

    Paste and pin

Paste your rules into the channel and pin the message. For Community servers, you can also add them to the official Rules Screening so new members must agree before chatting.

What Makes a Good Set of Discord Rules?

Keep them clear and enforceable. Vague rules are hard to moderate. Spell out what counts as spam, NSFW, or harassment so your staff can act consistently.

Match the number to your size. Small servers do well with 5 short rules. Larger or moderated communities benefit from a sectioned rulebook covering conduct, content, spam, and enforcement.

Reference Discord's own rules. Always require members to follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines on top of your own. It gives staff a clear backstop for serious violations.
